Methodology of Scientific Work

The course is designed as a practical introduction to the basics of writing technical and scientific texts. It includes an overview of research methods and funding sources for research in the Czech Republic and the EU. It also covers the possibilities and key principles of commercializing scientific outputs.

The general knowledge on the Bachelor´s degree level is requested.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Students work on individual projects focused on searching scientific databases on the Internet. The projects are evaluated and discussed with the students. Submission and presentation of the projects are mandatory.

 

Aims

The course aims to introduce students to writing technical and scientific texts, understanding basic terminology in science and research, and exploring ways to fund research in the Czech Republic and the EU. Students will learn to evaluate scientific work, search for information in databases like Web of Science and Scopus, and analyze scientific articles. They will apply these skills when writing their own publications or technical reports and gain knowledge about the commercialization of scientific results.

2. Overview of the MDR Regulation (EU 2017/745) and its significance for the development, manufacturing, and placing of medical devices on the market.
3. Classification of medical devices: risk classes and certification requirements.
4. Quality management system and the structure of technical documentation for medical devices.
5. Clinical evaluation and post-market surveillance of medical devices.
6. Software as a medical device: requirements for development, safety, and cybersecurity.
