Course detail

Vehicular Communication 2

FEKT-MPA-VC2Acad. year: 2024/2025

The course deals with both theoretical and practical aspects of contemporary vehicular communications, with focus on understanding of principles of communication systems based on OFDM principle. In the first part of the course, students significantly deepen their understanding in the area of radio communication signal processing, especially algorithms for demodulation, synchronization and equalization. the second part of the course is edicated to description of individual V2X communication standards, especially 802.11p, 4G LTE and 5G NR standards.  During the computer labs, students will verify the theoretical background knowledge on the MATLAB-based examples of processing of real IEEE 802.11p and 5G NR signals.

Entry knowledge

Student enroled in the course should be able to explain the basic terminology of probability and statistics, to create simple program in MATLAB or Python, calculate the response of linear time invariant system to simple input signal, to discuss basic terms and methods of signal and system theory.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

During the semester, students can obtain: Up to 30 points for PC-lab tasks. Up to 70 points for final exam (50 points for written, 30 points for oral part). Student needs to get at least 22 points in written part of exam to get qualified for the oral part.
The definition of controlled teaching and the method of its implementation is determined by the annually updated decree of the subject guarantor. The computer (PC labs) are compulsory.

Aims

Course aims to make students familiar with basic principles of vehicular wireless communications, with focus on detail understanding of techniques used within IEEE 802.11p, 4G (LTE) and 5G NR standards.

The graduate from the course is able to: (a) express mathematical foundations of OFDM (b) design appropriate OFDM parameters with respect to given environment and V2X usecase (c) explain basic principles, advantages and drawbacks of OFDM in context of vehicular communications (d) create a Matlab program to generate and demodulate OFDM signals (e) describe basic structure of 802.11p, 4G, 5G standards for V2X communications (f) compute the throughputs of V2X standards with respect to given parameters
