Design Project Development

FSI-YE2Acad. year: 2023/2024

Project design development focuses on the use of already acquired knowledge from the previous subject (Project design concept). This course emphasizes the next phase of the design process. At this stage, it is desirable to take into account the initial production technologies and materials, which direct the student to finalize the design. During the semester, students solve a task focused on the design of a functionally more complex product with background material from practice. The output of the assignment is drawing documentation, presentation and physical model of the proposed solution in a suitable scale.

Mode of study

Not applicable.

Entry knowledge

Knowledge of sketching techniques and design experience in the field of industrial design.
Knowledge and understanding of the basics of spatial creation, artistic composition and implementation of three-dimensional models.
Acquisition of design solutions for simple and more complicated industrial products.
Understanding of functional, technical and technological aspects of the topic.
Knowledge of modeling (eg. Rhinoceros, 3ds Max) and graphics programs (eg. Adobe).

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Requirements for obtaining credit:
Active participation in exercises.
Submission of a completely developed project in digital (poster, presentation, visualization) and physical form (poster, model) within the set deadlines.
Requirements for passing the exam:
Successful defense of the project, in which the concept and the level of presentation of the achieved results are evaluated.
The resulting classification is determined according to the ECTS scale. In total, up to 100 points can be obtained.
Attendance is mandatory and controlled by the teacher, a maximum of two excused absences per semester are allowed. In case of long-term absence, compensation for missed classes is in the competence of the subject guarantor.

Aims

At this stage of the design process, students will focus on part of the design process, which aims to create clearly defined variants of design solutions taking into account the basic requirements of production while maintaining the main functional parameters of the proposed product. Students will gain knowledge of existing materials and production technologies, which will then be able to apply independently during the design process. Graduates of the course will be able to solve design and technical problems of a specific topic more complex, individually and in the form of teamwork.
Ability to create a product design based on the analysis and input documents.
Ability to objectively select a suitable material and production technology.
Ability to create a functional, manufacturable and usable final design.
Ability of independent or collective design work.
Ability to present the achieved results through digital technologies and a design model.
