Administration of Project

The course is aimed at project management. It explains current trends in project management and relevant international standards. Further, it focuses on planning and managing projects so that they are finished in time, in the quality required and within the planned budget. SW support is mentioned as a necessary part of project planning, scheduling and tracking.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

The credit consists of the preparation of a semester's work and its defense, as well as continuous tests of knowledge.
The exam is conducted in the form of an oral examination and will monitor both specific knowledge and whether students have actually gone through the entire educational process within the semester.

Students with an individual study plan have the same conditions.


Attendance at lectures is recommended, attendance at seminars is controlled by means of feedback tests. Way of control and substituting missed lessons will be realized by means of written tests and is fully in teacher's competence.

Aims

The main goal of the course is to introduce the students in the form of training to internationally recognized principles, trends and methods in project planning and management. The second goal is to teach students to utilize efficiently information and communication technologies in project management. The third goal is to show that team understanding of a problem is essential for successful project management.

Students will learn to plan and manage projects according to international standards of the International Project Management Association (IPMA) and the ČSN ISO 21 500 Czech State Norm. Further, the course will explain strategic connections of utilizing ICT for the support of business goals. The project management methods included in the training are fully exploitable also in other areas of managerial work, not only in selection and implementation of information systems. Particularly, the following four key areas of project management will be trained: creation of a project strategy, efficient project planning, principles of project management and completion of projects. The course will also explain the principles of building and leading project teams and the issue of multiple projects coordination.
Because of its compatibility with international standards, the course will also prepare students for the IPMA D-level certification exam (cf. http://www.ipma.cz/). The students will then be able to achieve an certification in project management - certificate IPMA-D, awarded to Společností pro projektové řízení o.s.

Syllabus

Topic 1: Introduction to project management (basic terminology, concepts and definitions, characteristics of the project, the project life cycle, types of projects; project within a permanent organization, project management standards, certification information IPMA)
Topic 2: Pre-Phase (objectives and benefits of the project; trojimperativ project identification and analysis of stakeholders)
Topic 3: Phase opening / initializing projects (SMART goals; logical framework of the project - the benefits, objectives, key products, activities, assumptions and risks of successful implementation, setting metrics and sources of project risk identification)
Topic 4: The planning phase of projects (plan activities, WBS, schedule, limited resources, team roles and team work, effective communication, risk analysis)
Topic 5: Software support for planning and project management (MS Project software and other products; meaning and use, basic operations - activities, duration, links, resources, output, basic functions - WBS, network diagrams, Ganntův diagram analysis resources cost analysis)
Topic 6: Phases of project management (implementation and monitoring of project communication management, analysis achieved EVM values​​, change management, risk monitoring, crisis and conflicts in the project)
Topic 7: Phase completion of projects (project completion; sustainability of project outputs of the project, project documentation)
Topic 8: The course "Project Management" training program is accredited by the Association for Project Management.
Each topic will be covered during one or three weeks of the semester.

Syllabus

The seminars will focus on practical training and practicing of the topic explained in lectures in the use of Microsoft Project.
In seminars the students will discuss particular case studies of already implemented projects.
Part of the seminars will have the form of moderated discussion, during which the students will be able to practice the methods of process counseling and project team building.
