Course detail

Vehicle Operation Control 2

FEKT-MPA-VO2Acad. year: 2023/2024

In the first part of the course, students will learn about the main application areas of automotive sensors and the resulting requirements for their parameters and reliability in given working conditions. The main part of the course will be devoted to the explanation of the basic principles of sensor function and specific technical solutions typical for the automotive industry. Sensors and actuators for each application area - powertrain and vehicle motion control, navigation and safety systems, and systems providing assistance and support functions - will be discussed in turn.

Entry knowledge

Knowledge of basic physics and basic electronics is required.
Work in the laboratory is subject to a valid qualification of "instructed worker" according to the Decree No. 50/1978 Coll., which students must obtain before starting the course. Information on this qualification is given in the Dean's Directive on familiarisation of students with safety regulations.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Students can obtain 30 points for the activity in laboratory exercises. The written final exam is awarded by 70 points (maximally).
Evaluation of activities is specified by a regulation, which is issued by the lecturer responsible for the course annually.

Aims

The aim of the course is to introduce students to the basic principles and characteristics of sensors used in automotive systems for powertrain control, safety and user comfort and the requirements placed on them.
The graduate of the course is able to:
(a) describe the function of the basic electronic systems of a vehicle
(b) describe the operation and characteristics of the sensors used
(c) explain the principle of selected types of sensors
(d) understand the advantages and disadvantages of different types of sensors and actuators
