Learning outcomes of the course unit

A student who successfully passes the 0AZ exam understands the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialization. A successful exam candidate can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of grammar and vocabulary at B2 level is regarded as a minimum to pass the exam.

Separately registered exam following previous language study.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The exam takes an oral form. In its first part, the student is required to complete a set of tasks testing their knowledge of grammar and vocabulary at B2 level and explain their answers. Then the candidate will be asked to talk spontaneously about a topic which they have not prepared beforehand. The topic of the conversation will be related to a particular aspect of university life and the candidate shall be able to engage in conversation spontaneously without prior preparation, with sufficient accuracy and range of grammar and vocabulary, fluency, and interaction. The student is required to score at least 50% in both parts of the exam.

Aims

The aim of the examination is to prove student's knowledge and skills at B2 level with the focus on the vocabulary and skills needed when studying in the English language. The students are expected to use the language as independent users.
