Project management and financing in arts

The course introduces students to the world of subsidies, grants, funds and project management. There will be the artistic intentions viewed and discussed in terms of available funding options. The central point of the course is a group work on the own project. In addition to practical experience in writing a project application, students will also gain experience in creating a budget, forms of payment of funds within the project, their impact on the social and health insurance system and the tax system. Furthermore, the role of international cooperation and cooperation with relevant stakeholders within the project and project management will be devoted. The course will also offer the basics of financial literacy of personal finance.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students have an overview in funding programmes for creative work and the operation of the arts; they manage respond to grant calls. They are capable of creating a project application on their own and will not be lost in the world of personal finance, the system of social and health levies, the health insurance and the tax system. The subject results in a processed project application.

Prerequisites

Basic financial literacy, basic orientation in funding opportunities for creative work.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Lectures, practical demonstrations of selected project applications and grant challenges, coaching. Practical exercises based on group work, discussions and consultations of ideas proposals.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The following conditions are laid down for granting the credit:
Attendance and active attendance at workshops requiring home preparation, handing in practical output.

Course curriculum

1/ The course starts with the special coaching technique that allows students to clarify which project they want to work on during the course.
2/ Presentation of subsidies, grants and funds in the cultural field. Presentation of types of project applications and grant calls.
3/ Presentation of examples of good practice in project applications. Designing a project plan.
4/ Getting to know the terminology (key activities, outputs, indicators, publicity, dissemination, direct and indirect costs). Presentation of own project plan.
5/ Evaluation criteria of the project applications. Finalization of the project plan.
6/ Getting to know the types of employment in the project and the services. The forms of earnings in the art and their impact on the system of state insurance and taxes.
7/ Rules and conditions of the budget. Budget preparation.
8/ International cooperation and partnership in the project. Grant allocation and the following steps.
9/ Time management techniques (goal specification, task prioritization, effective time management, etc.) that will bring the project to life.
10/ Basics of financial literacy of personal finances.

Aims

The aim of the subject is to adopt the writing of project applications and to obtain an overview of possible sources of funding in the field of culture. The course is designed for students to adopt project terminology. Students will have the opportunity to process their artistic intention into a project application form.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Participation in lessons is mandatory (tolerated absence of 20%).
