Competence in Electrical Engineering

FSI-VE0Acad. year: 2021/2022

The course is focused on gaining professional competence in electrical engineering on the basis of Decree No. 50/1978 Coll. Attention is first focused on the issue of electrical equipment. Electrical devices are divided according to various aspects, such as rated voltages. Furthermore, the power system, wires, cables are described and the identification of object terminals, wires and cables is mentioned. The student will also get acquainted in detail with distribution networks, with their possible connections and properties. The connection of electrical objects to the network is also discussed, as well as moving leads, power and light circuits, single-phase and three-phase sockets and marking of electrical objects.
Great emphasis is placed on safety in electrical engineering. In connection with the above, a safe product, safe electrical installation and safe operation on electrical equipment are defined. The concept of prohibited work and the issue of setting up and operating test facilities is not omitted.
Similarly, the issue of electric shock is taught. The rooms are described in terms of the risk of electric shock and the principle of protection against electric shock, protective equipment, such as additional insulation, protective earthing and connection, automatic disconnection. In this context, the student gets acquainted with fuses, circuit breakers and current and voltage protectors. Subsequently, protective measures against electric shock, protection by automatic disconnection from the source, protection by double or reinforced insulation, protection by isolation and low voltage SELV (PELV) are presented.
Lightning and surge protection, inspection of electrical equipment or electromagnetic compatibility are also mentioned in the course.
Considerable attention is paid to first aid in the event of an electric shock, both theoretically and practically.
The course is supplemented by laboratory exercises, the content of which follows the material discussed in lectures.
