CHAPTERS FROM ARCHITECTURAL THEORY M

Selected overview of classical theories of architecture from the Antiquity to the present, including fifteenth-, sixteenth-, seventeenth- and nineteenth-century European authors.Students interpret acquired knowledge in their own essay and architectural drawings.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

A set of drawings with an essay, proving student´s proficiency in interconnection of theory, historiography and desing. Students utilize their knowledge of key concepts of architectural theory to precise their own design approach, as well as its oral/written presentation and interpretation.

Prerequisites

An overview of historical and contemporary architecture. Students of MA programme could join the course only in the case they did not enrol in it during the Bc programme.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The condition of receiving the credits is to participate in continuous consultations of the assignment, to replace the excused absences, and to submit the final portfolio within the specified deadline.

Aims

The aim of the course is familiarization with key concepts of architectural theory, research into their actual validity, and proficiency improvement regarding the use of theory and historiography in the process of design, as well as own additional theoretical intepretation of architectural design.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The submission of a set of drawings accompanied with an essay of pre-arranged extent is compulsory for all students.
