Studio work is the main and essential method of teaching architecture. It is based on the “learning by doing” method, i.e. acquiring knowledge and skills through practical application. It consists of a dialogue between the teacher and the student about the project in progress. Its theme corresponds to the module that the student at the beginning enrolled of his studies in master program “Architecture and Urbanism”.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

By completing the studio program, the student deepens his or her method of architectural design work oriented on historical environment. The student should be prepared to manage with success the diploma thesis.

Prerequisites

Precondition for going through this subject is passing subjects from previous study that develops logic and hierarchy of necessary information and experience for creative work of the architect. Studio project is an introductory semestral project for graduate study programme, beginning the work on this project is conditioned by successfully completed bachelor´s study and by going through mandatory projection practice.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Studion work is reviewed on mutual critiques of students and teachers, final evaluation from work leader with classified credit does not only follow quality of final submitted work, but also its presentation and defence and activity during critiques.

Course curriculum

Semester is divided to the time sections determinate action critical discussion above in course of manufacture projectthat the sympathetic except all students and teachers also invited specialists.

Aims

By going through this subject and by submitting full set of self elaborated project or theoretic work the student will show universal orientation in problems of chosen topic and also his readiness to use gained theoretical and information and practical skills from existing study and also is able to conceptually use them in architectonic and urbanistic design.
The aim of this subject is to show in all important views the problems concerning development phase of
post-industrial city /or urbanized country/ by self work on chosen topic in the form of urbanistic composition /essay, treatise/. Also to choose main problems concerning the assignment, determine theoretical alternative openings for own concept of spatial and functional arrangement by study of theoretical data and comparable examples along with evaluation of researches. To process chosen solution in matching graphical and digital form with supportive argumentation for defending the proposal. Convincing form of presentation.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Project is an individual student´s work, continuous controls are connected with mandatory and active presence during critiques. It is an interest of student to consult his work with project leader, eventually with specialists from the school and external specialists.
