Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will gain knowledge regarding up-to-date terminology, manufacturing and handling procedures and specifications for fresh concrete. They will understand different types of formwork and formwork systems as the basic prerequisite for the selection of an optimum type of formwork during the construction and reconstruction of structures. They will be able to carry out a technical and economic analysis of the costs involved with formwork and find the most cost-effective option for the rental of formwork. They will gain an overview of the manufacturing processes used in producing reinforced concrete structures themselves from the perspective of formwork, reinforcing and concreting work. They will learn specific procedures for concreting under special conditions. They will gain basic knowledge regarding the options for the rehabilitation of concrete structures.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of statics as applied to concrete structures, structural mechanics and methods for testing the properties of fresh and hardened concrete.

Co-requisites

Time analysis and optimization of the progress of work over time, use of computer support for the planning and execution of the construction process.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Lectures are the basic teaching method, involving the explanation of basic principles, methods, problems, and examples of their solution in the form of presentations with practical examples and an emphasis on critical points. Follow-up practical classes focus mainly on practical mastery of the knowledge acquired during lectures in the form of work on an individual project under the guidance of the tutor.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Successful completion of the course occurs upon gaining the credit and passing the exam. The basic prerequisite for the credit is active participation during practical lessons, i.e. regular attendance with max. 1 permitted absence and proper fulfilment of the required outputs of the student’s individual assignment. The required outputs are a cost analysis for formwork for a specific structure, technical guidelines concerning monolithic structures, and the designing of formwork using available so
