Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will master the black-and-white analog photography through practical experience with old photographic techniques. They will have to accomplish the given assignments creatively and innovatively.

Prerequisites

Openness to critique, discussion and experiment. Interest about medium, collaboration and spiritual attitude towards photography. Knowledge about digital and analogue techniques.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Specific lectures about topic and individual consultations. Experimenting and making connections between the concrete and the abstract. Investigate, test, explore, manipulate, solve problems, make decisions and organize information in hands-on ways. Discussion about concept of practical and theoretical photography.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

A credit is awarded on the basis of attendance (80%), active participation on studio activities, and continuous work on individual and group projects. It is necessary to follow the given deadlines. Exam has a form of defending the results of the creative activity during the semester. examination.

Course curriculum

Semestrial task – one theme worked out in different genres (eg. landscape, portrait, documentary photography or still life). Simultaneously we will deal with technical aspects of analog photography. Inasmuch as students have already shown their skills in black and white photography, we will work with digital media.
Each week will be held mandatory studio meetings, individual consultations and discussions about students' major work.
Assignments and topic of semestrial work might change during the study process.

Introduction and analysis of photographic genres.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Obligatory attendance at the studio meetings (80%). Replacement of missed lessons is done through individual consultations beyond the scope of the scheduled lessons.
