English in Aviation

English in Aviation makes the students acquainted with the basic data about an aircraft, its structure and instrument equipment. The students also gain the basic terminology in air traffic, meteorology, aerodromes, and air transport.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Knowledge about the structure and main parts of the aircraft, about engine, instrument equipment, navigation and flight instruments, meteorology and weather, and aerodromes. Acquaintance with different language structures used only in aviation.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of grammatical structures typical for technical language (passive voice, gerund, clauses...), terminology of aerodynamics, lift and drag, main parts of the aircraft.

Language instruction as an extension of basic professional curriculum.

Aims

The aim is to make the students familiar with the elementary terminology of air traffic, air traffic control and aircraft in such an extent that enables them to apply their knowledge in practice. To improve their communication ability in common language is another task of the course.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

If a student does not fulfil the conditions for obtaining the course-unit credit, the teacher may (in justifiable cases) state compensatory conditions.
