Fundamentals of Instrumentation 2

Existing and new combination techniques and techniques of play, focusing on orchestral instruments (especially brass and percussion), briefly non-orchestral, historical and ethnic instruments. Study of chamber and orchestral music, practical instrumental studies.

- describe brass instruments in terms of creating tone and playing techniques
- describe string instruments in terms of playing techniques,
- describe voices and choirs in terms of ranges, registers and voice timbre
- describe instrumental ensembles and orchestras in terms of setting and timbral qualities
- follow orchestral score

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
- Lectures consist of an explanation of basic principles supplemented with samples of scores and audio samples.
- Exercises support practical acquiring of themes presented at lectures in form of practical work with active participation of students.
Participation at lectures is recommended. Participation at other ways of instruction is checked.

4.-6. bowed strings, early music ensembles,viols da gamba
7. basic electromechanical an electronic musical instruments (before analogue synhtesizer), their presence in classical music
8.-9. singing voices and choirs, vocal registers and formants, vocal-instrumental genres, musical impact of room acoustics
10.-12. instrumental ensembles, orchesrtas, typical musical structures, principles of acoustic masking
13. orchestral score, structure and reading, musical terminology and common abbreviations
