Course detail

Design Methodology

FSI-GM0Acad. year: 2011/2012

The course extends the knowledge of students in the field of machine building. It makes students familiar with general principles and methodology of designing machines and technological entities. It presents methods of calculation and dimensioning a technical object, force proportion analyses and work with models in the process of machine designing. Great attention is paid to a detailed analysis of constructional and computational procedures used at realization of individual machines of leading Czech manufacturers. Last but not least students are made familiar with principles of production drawing and technical documentation of production machines.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will extent their knowledge of designing methodology. They will be able to draft a plan of realization of new construction and optimise the progress proposal and construction on the basis of the analysis of possible solutions. They will be able to use computing method for dimensioning an engineering object and to work with models in the process of machine designing. They have a clear idea of the fundamentals of production of engineering documentation.

Prerequisites

Students are assumed to have the knowledge of 3D CAD and computational methods for construction of production machines.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The exam is written and oral. Answers on questions are scored. Based on the total score, an ECTS grade is assigned to students.

Aims

The aims of the course is for students to learn knowingly and systematically make use of designing methodology in practice. Using examples of leading companies to demonstrate benefits of modern engineering approach to the construction of machines. Students are given basic information about production of technical documentation regarding legal and technical requirements.
