Introduction to Structure of Production Machines (ISPM)

The course is concerned with basic information about construction and building of production machines, particularly machines for machining and forming. Classical constructional solutions of separate machine parts and nodes are presented. The emphasis is put on the application and usage of the most modern machine components for machine constructions.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will learn the basics of construction of production machines. Students will be able to divide a machine into constituent functional categories. They will acquire basic methods of the analysis of construction blocks and parts and methodology of their calculation. The will have a clear ideas of modern trends of the construction of production machines.

Prerequisites

Students are assumed to have the knowledge of theory and technology of machining, forming, founding, welding, mounting and surface finish. They should know general basic construction of production machines, basic methods for computation parts and mechanisms of machine, pneumatic and hydraulic systems and basic application of servodrive and electromotors. They are supposed to know physical, statics, kinematic and dynamic rules. Knowledge of stress analysis. Basic knowledge of mechanization and automation. For practises the knowledge of 3D CAD SolidWorks software is necessary.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The course-unit credit requirements: attendance at exercises. Delivered and approved semester work. The examination comprises written and oral parts. Students are examined separately from machine tools and forming machines. Each part of the examination is evaluated with the score. Based on the total score, an ECTS grade is assigned to students.

Aims

The objective of the course is to make students familiar with the basic construction nodes of the production machines and with the principles of their calculation and to show them possibilities of their using in design, construction and building of production machines.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The attendance at lectures is recommended. Exercises are mandatory. Participation in exercises is checked and recorded. Absences may be compensated based on the agreement with the teacher.
