Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students learn in detail how to work out a design project with regard to the usual practise and to eventual exploitation in a production company. It can serve as a starting analytical material for the theoretical part of the diploma project.

Prerequisites

Completion of courses Workshop - Industrial Design III-IV is assumed. Students are expected to have mastered both the drawing and moulding as well as the basic spatial creation, art composition and realisation of three-dimensional models (mock-ups). Students are also expected to have the knowledge of the design solution of both simple and more complicated industrial products. Understanding the function, technical and technological aspects of given topics is necessary for a qualified solution. Praxis in both the 2D and 3D programmes (CorelDraw, Adobe, Rhinoceros etc.) is necessary.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Graded course-unit credit requirements: attendance at lessons, handing over assigned projects by the deadline in a sufficient quality. Presentation of an elaborated project. Design and the level of presentation of each project are evaluated separately.
Resulting evaluation consists of evaluations on projects. In total it will be possible to aquire 100 points. Resulting classification will be defined by the ECTS scale.
If some of the projects are awarded less than half of the maximum pts., final evaluation of the course is "failed".
According to the article No. 13 of Study and Examination Rules of Brno University of Technology ECTS evaluation degree scale is used. . If some of the projects are awarded less than 50 pts., final evaluation of the course is "failed". The course is evaluated with the following grades: ECTS EVALUATION DEGREES / PTS. RATING / NUMERIC RATING: A / 100 - 90 / 1 / Excellent; B /89 - 80 / 1,5 / Very good; C / 79 - 70 / 2 / Good; D / 69 - 60 / Satisfactory; E / 59 - 50 / Sufficient; F / 49 - 0 / 4 / Failed.

Aims

The course objective is to make students familiar with the given theme, defining correct mutual relations between a human - machine - environment. Determination of a general view is very important at the beginning of work as well as using some components of the near future.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The attendance in workshops is controlled. Students are required to attend workshops in scheduled hours, work on given projects and wait for consultation, unless a lecturer gives any other individual plan. Students have to inform the lecturer in advance about his working-place in the scheduled education time (studio, workshops, modelling room, eventually college dormitory, home, or producer etc.) - absence is not excused without this information. The absences are possible only due to serious reasons, e.g. illness. Unexcused absence may cause the project is not accepted. The total absence greater than 50% (including excused absence) may threaten project acceptance.
