Microwave Integrated Techniques

Integrated techniques in microwave and mm wave bands. Basic types of planar microwave integrated circuits (MICs). Hybrid MICs. Microstrip, coplanar, and slot line. Lumped elements in MICs, inductors, capacitors and resistors. Monolithic MICs. Microstrip resonators, slot resonators and dielectric resonators. Directional couplers in MIT. Power dividers and combiners. Filters in MIT. Design of selected microwave planar structure, its realisation, and experimental measurements.

The students become familiar with the basic types of planar microwave integrated circuits (MICs) for the frequency bands of hundreds MHz to hundreds GHz, their analysis and design.

Aims

The aim of the course is to make students familiar with the basic types of planar microwave integrated circuits (MICs) for the frequency bands of hundreds MHz to hundreds GHz, their analysis and design.

Syllabus

Definition of microwave integrated circuit (MIC). History, basic types and their constructions. Waveguide MICs.
Hybrid MICs. Technological properties of used substrate and metal. Non symetrical microstrip lines and methods of their analysis.
Basic electrical parameters of microstrip line, synthesis, dispersion. Some modifications of microstrips.
Striplines. Coplanar, slotline and coupled line microstrips. Basic parameters, methods of analysis and synthesis.
Lumped elements MICs. Inductors, capacitors and their technical realisation.
Lumped resistors. Monolitical MICs (MMICs)
