Original Abstract

Combination of mathematical optimization methods with methods of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) forms a strong tool for hydraulic machines design. This contribution strives to present possibilities, advantages and pitfalls of this approach. Practical application is documented on swirl turbine draft tube optimization. Resulting pressure recovery factor is 4,9% higher compared with original design.
