Přizpůsobení novým funkcím a nové využití průmyslových areálů a budov má celosvětový význam a je jednou z nejdůležitějších potřeb bývalých průmyslových center v Evropě. Ostrava is a town with heavy industry, which gave rise buildings and premises that are of a considerable proportion in the town structure. The termination of production has brought a question - what to do with these premises? Both the architecture of the buildings and the technological equipment are outstanding documents of their era. However, very often, these areas are afflicted by contamination. Adaptive re-use of industrial premises and buildings is an international interest and is one of the most important needs in the former industrial centres all over Europe. The area in the town of Ostrava, which developed into one of the centres of coal mining, and heavy industry in Europe, serves as an excellent example.
