Lecture by a ŠKODA AUTO Expert at FME BUT: Hybrid Electric Drives in Vehicles

On Wednesday April 9, 2025 at 1:00 PM in lecture hall P5, Technická 2896/2, Brno, the topic of hybrid drives will be presented by Ing. Martin Hrdlička, Ph.D., MBA, a prominent figure in the field of automotive engineering with extensive experience in powertrain and chassis development. He graduated from the Czech Technical University in Prague and the Technical University of Ostrava. He began his professional career at Mercedes Benz AG and VW AG in Germany, where he gained valuable experience in vehicle development. Since 1996, he has been working at ŠKODA AUTO a.s., where he holds leading positions in development. He is currently the Head of Chassis and Powertrain Development. He is a member of the advisory body of the Council for Research, Development and Innovation. Among his notable achievements is the establishment of ŠKODA AUTO’s global competencies for powertrain development within the Volkswagen Group. For this purpose, he founded the most modern engine and emission center in Europe in Mladá Boleslav, with a top-tier development team.

The lecture will build on two previous lectures from past years, which filled lecture halls and have also garnered large numbers of views on YouTube:

  • Development of Emission Legislation including EURO 7 (in Czech language)
  • Vehicle Powertrains in Context (in Czech language)

Although internal combustion engines are generally on the decline in Europe, at Škoda Auto their development is on the rise. The reason is the transfer of engine development from other brands within the group to Škoda Auto, where group internal combustion engines are being developed both for the European market and emerging markets (China, India, Brazil, South Africa). In this context, the lecture may answer many questions you might have—and of course, you are welcome to ask them.

The lecture is organized within the OP JAK project Intersectoral Cooperation – Innovative Technologies for Smart Low-emission Mobility CZ.02.01.01/00/23_020/0008528, in which Škoda Auto and Ing. Hrdlička are involved.
