Emotion, joy, laughter. The BUT Junior Children's University culminated over the weekend with a festive graduation ceremony for young researchers who, during the academic year, tried out the roles of scientists, engineers, and artists. A total of one hundred graduates successfully completed their junior scientific journey. During the official event at the Rectorate of Brno University of Technology, they took an oath and received their graduation diplomas.The Children's University ended with a graduation ceremony. | Author: Václav Koníček Thanks to the BUT Junior program, children have the opportunity to get to know the university environment, explore modern technologies, and gain insight into scientific and artistic processes. To give participants a full university experience, they took part not only in lectures and lab work, but also in matriculation and graduation ceremonies. “We promise to do our best to support the development of science and to always apply the knowledge we have gained at the BUT Junior Children's University in Brno. We promise to always uphold the honor and dignity of the university where we received our junior education,” declared the graduate representatives before the children gradually received their diplomas, officially completing their junior studies at Brno University of Technology.The children also said their graduation vows. | Author: Václav Koníček During the ceremony, BUT Vice-Rector for Further Education and Quality, Vítězslav Máša, also addressed the graduates, wishing them success in their future paths. “You visited various faculties and parts of Brno University of Technology and you weren’t afraid – on the contrary, you asked questions, explored, and created. That is exactly the attitude we value at the university. Don’t forget that every great and important thing starts with a question,” he said in his speech.The graduation ceremony was led by the vice-rectors of the BUT. | Author: Václav Koníček As a highlight of the graduation program, experts from the Faculty of Chemistry prepared an entertaining chemistry show for the children and their families. In addition to experiments that children can safely try at home, they also demonstrated a few that require expert supervision. The chemists impressed especially with summoning a genie from a bottle, launching a mini rocket, and the “Magic Pot” experiment.A chemical show enriched the festive programme. | Author: Václav Koníček And what did the young graduates enjoy the most at BUT Junior? “I liked the Institute of Aerospace Engineering the most,” said one of the young academy participants. “I love computer science, so I enjoyed the programming at the Faculty of Information Technology the most,” shared one of the graduates. “It was great that I made new friends whom I met regularly,” said a fresh graduate. “I liked everything – the entire program. Everything was really interesting and I’m glad I got to try so many different things,” described another BUT Junior participant.One hundred children completed the academy. | Author: Václav Koníček The popular BUT Junior extracurricular project has for many years been introducing upper primary school pupils and lower-grade grammar school students to the university environment and the latest scientific discoveries.
