BoosterChallenge BUT: From idea to prototype in one summer!

Do you want to do something meaningful over the holidays? Are you more interested in your own project than an internship or a part-time job? Join the BoosterChallenge 2025 - a summer challenge for all BUT students. Put your heads together, get your own idea off the ground and gain valuable experience across all study fields, business and teamwork. The best projects will be financially rewarded at the end of the summer.

What is BoosterChallenge

BoosterChallenge BUT is a summer program for those who have their own idea or project in their head that they don't have time for during the semester - even for those who don't have one yet but want to work in a team. Students across the faculties and units of the BUT can develop their projects during the summer, take them further and use the support and facilities of the university.

A major benefit is interfaculty collaboration - bringing together different skills and perspectives increases the chance of producing a meaningful and actionable outcome. Teams can work on projects from home, in OpenSpace@FIT, strojLab or in other labs at BUT faculties and units.

Inspiration can also come from, for example, bachelor, master or semester theses that have the potential to become the basis for a new product. The goal is to create a working prototype during the summer. As a reward, successful teams can receive financial support for further development of the project.

Calendar and deadlines

The first step of the BoosterChallenge is networking, which runs until May 16. If you have your own idea or a project in progress and are looking for team members, you can fill out request form. Conversely, if you don't have a project yet but would like to join an existing team, you can upskill your skills and then participate in the development of an existing exciting idea.

After the networking is complete, the next steps come. A project proposal is due by May 30. By 6 June, a decision will be made on the acceptance of the projects, and then you can work on your ideas. Final results must be submitted by September 5. The presentation and evaluation of the projects will then take place the week of September 8. In addition to the feeling of a job well done, a financial reward awaits the best ones.

All details, schedule and links can also be found directly on the BoosterChallenge website.

Last year the programme supported four student projects

Last year's BoosterChallenge was dominated by projects on the topics of advertising, supporting small entrepreneurs, healthy sleep and gastro. Teams made up of students from different faculties presented their projects to an expert jury, which evaluated the technical quality of the results, the innovativeness of the ideas, the enthusiasm and focus of the teams, and the readiness of the projects for further development and application.

The projects Věrka: loyalty card as a service for small entrepreneurs, Freedom Drones: drone show and advertising, DeeperSleeper: the most sophisticated sleep assistant and Mangusta: A platform for offering lunch from a menu or menu. If you're interested in how the committee evaluated the projects, you can read the detailed write-up.

Encouraging Entrepreneurship at BUT

Along with registering for the BoosterChallenge, you can also enter the University-wide BUT Student Entrepreneurship Award, which will give you the opportunity to develop your project further and, most importantly, explore its entrepreneurial potential. Registration for the competition will open during May.

Those of you who are already in the start-up phase can also take advantage of the AmpliFIT programme at the Faculty of Information Technology, which will help you develop the business itself.

Supporting entrepreneurship among students and employees is one of the strategic priorities at the BUT. This is one of the reasons why the university has created ContriBUTe, an innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem that promotes education, opportunities, events, resources and contacts in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship. It contributes to turning ideas into real business at BUT.
