How are their quality and autonomy linked to responsible funding? And how does Europe compare globally in terms of investment in higher education?
These are some of the questions that will be addressed at the EUA Funding Forum 2026, which will provide a platform for a European debate on how to develop universities that are not only capable of responding to today’s challenges, but also of actively shaping Europe’s future.
The programme will connect funding issues with a broader discussion on the future of European higher education. Participants will explore topics including the financial sustainability of universities, their international competitiveness, the future of European university alliances, private funding and philanthropy, and the use of data in strategic decision-making. Attention will also be given to the true costs of student mobility.
The Forum will provide an opportunity to share experience and examples of good practice among those involved in the strategic direction, funding and development of European higher education institutions.
Rector Ladislav JaníčekThis year’s Forum is particularly significant as it takes place in the year when the European University Association (EUA) celebrates its 25th anniversary. The theme of the event is “A University of Value”.
“It is a great honour for Brno University of Technology to host the 2026 EUA Funding Forum. This year’s gathering is particularly meaningful, as it coincides with the 25th anniversary of the European University Association. Hosting this milestone event under the theme “A University of Value” offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the role universities play in shaping a Europe increasingly defined by resilience, global competitiveness, and technological sovereignty. I am convinced that the ideas and best practices shared during this Forum will contribute to more sustainable funding models across Europe. We look forward to welcoming you to Brno in October 2026,” said Ladislav Janíček, Rector of BUT.
