The Winning Group Arena in Brno once again belonged to university hockey on Wednesday, 25 February. In front of a roaring crowd of enthusiastic fans, traditional sporting rivals from Brno University of Technology (BUT) and Masaryk University (MUNI) faced off in the University Hockey Clash. The thrilling derby ended with a victory for BUT Cavaliers Brno, who, following their autumn success, once again lifted the winners’ trophy.BUT Cavaliers Brno defended their dominance over Brno and defeated HC MUNI 3–1. | Author: HSUThe University Hockey Clash opened the summer semester and once again transformed the Extraliga stadium Winning Group Arena into a roaring student crowd full of emotions, competitions, and an unforgettable atmosphere. The University Hockey Clash is one of the largest student events in Brno, combining entertainment, sport, and the natural rivalry of the city’s two largest universities every year. This popular sports derby returned earlier than usual this time. “There is strong demand for the clash every autumn. Many students who wanted to attend didn’t manage to buy a ticket, so we decided to organize this event for the first time at the beginning of the spring semester as well,” explains the main organizer Filip Vojáček.Following their autumn success, BUT Cavaliers Brno once again lifted the winners’ trophy. | Author: HSUSince its inception, the derby has been held six times – and after the February match, Brno University of Technology leads the overall score 4:2 against Masaryk University. The match ended with a 3–1 victory for BUT Cavaliers Brno. The player of the match was Vojtěch Kleofáš Příhoda, who scored two goals in the final part of the game and secured the team’s victory.
The program began even before the opening face-off. The stadium warmed up with a joint karaoke session featuring the popular student group Game of Life, and a number of competitions took place during the match. Victory in the stands’ contest went to MUNI.
