Graduates of Brno University of Technology succeeded in the Student Thesis Competition 2025, which every year evaluates the highest-quality bachelor’s and master’s theses in the fields of environmental protection and ecology. Brno University of Technology achieved an excellent result, as its graduates took 1st and 3rd place in the master’s thesis category. The awards were presented to the authors by representatives of the South Moravian Region and the Lipka organisation.Students who won awards in the Student Works 2025 competition. | Author: LipkaSubmitted student theses cover a wide range of topics every year. This year, the topics included natural burial grounds, communication of sustainability and water management. In the 23rd year of the competition, a total of 19 bachelor’s and 21 master’s theses were submitted from Brno University of Technology, Masaryk University, Mendel University in Brno, the University of Veterinary Sciences Brno, Palacký University Olomouc and Tomas Bata University in Zlín.In the master’s thesis category, two graduates of Brno University of Technology ranked among the best. Tereza Semrádová, who studied at the Institute of Landscape Water Management at the Faculty of Civil Engineering BUT, focused on the development of technologies for natural wastewater treatment plants and with her thesis entitled “Process of clogging of filtration fields during extensive wastewater treatment” won 1st place. Her work proposed application strategies to ensure the long-term high functionality of natural treatment plant filters, which will contribute to greater accessibility of this technology for small wastewater producers.The third best master’s thesis entitled “Determination of tulathromycin in cattle manure and soil” was presented by Jitka Navrkalová from the Institute of Chemistry and Technology of Environmental Protection at the Faculty of Chemistry BUT. She focused on antibiotic residues in the environment and her work created an above-standard basis for further research.Complete results are available on the Lipka website.The Student Thesis Competition related to environmental protection and ecology in the South Moravian Region creates conditions for interdisciplinary meetings and dialogue between students of natural sciences, humanities and technical fields and practitioners. Each year it is announced by the Department of the Environment of the South Moravian Region and coordinated by the environmental organisation Lipka.
