Business mission to the USA brought new partnerships and opportunities for BUT

Thanks to a business mission to the USA, organized by the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic on behalf of the Ministry of Transport, Brno University of Technology strengthened its relations with American institutions. The foreign trip took place during the working visit of Minister of Transport Martin Kupka, accompanied by a delegation of experts and representatives of companies and institutions, including BUT representatives. The mission brought the university the signing of two memoranda of understanding with prestigious American universities and new contacts in strategic areas.

As the USA is one of the main partners of Czech industry, the main purpose of the mission was to strengthen business relations, present innovative technologies, and establish new collaborations. During the trip, representatives of Czech institutions — including Jiří Hlinka, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at BUT, and Mariana Tesařová, Head of the  Department of Internationalization at BUT — met with partners in transport, automotive, smart mobility, aviation, and space technologies.

These areas are among the strategic fields to which BUT has long been committed, so establishing new contacts in these sectors was highly beneficial for the university. “It is crucial for us to develop cooperation that supports not only scientific progress but also its application in industry and future innovations,” said Mariana Tesařová.

A key outcome for the Brno university of Technology was the signing of two memoranda, symbolizing the first step in the emerging cooperation between BUT and the University of Michigan and the Georgia Institute of Technology. “BUT shares much in common with both universities, which is why we see great potential for meaningful collaboration. We consider the signing of the Memoranda of Understanding with these prestigious institutions to be an important first step. At BUT, we are eager to further actively develop this cooperation,” added Tesařová.

During the business mission, the delegation — consisting of nearly fifty participants from Czech companies and institutions — visited Atlanta, San Francisco, and Detroit. The trip included professional excursions and technical visits, workshops, meetings with technology and innovation companies, and networking events with American partners.

“It was quite surprising how positively we were received in the USA and the willingness to build cooperation. I believe that, at the very least, at the level of research teams — thanks also to the Memoranda of Understanding with the University of Michigan and GeorgiaTech — we will develop partnerships that will advance our work and increase the international visibility of BUT’s scientific teams,” said Jiří Hlinka, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. He also noted that combining academic and industrial forces will not only enrich the educational process but also contribute to the development of new business opportunities and the transfer of research results into practice.
