Being efficient at work and knowing how to organize meetings well — that’s what the new app OneCalend helps clients with. The app was created by Vojtěch Oravec, a student at the Faculty of Business and Management at Brno University of Technology. The project, which won the BUT Student Entrepreneurship Award this year, didn’t stay just an idea – it has entered the market and is now making work easier for more than 150 users. OneCalend is an innovative tool designed to simplify scheduling and meeting organization. Instead of long message exchanges, users simply connect their calendars, and OneCalend instantly shows when everyone is available and proposes a suitable time that fits all participants. According to the creator, this results in quickly and efficiently scheduled meetings, saving time on both sides. The app can also set optimal work block ranges, allowing for better focus. "The biggest advantage of OneCalend compared to other calendar apps is the calendar integration and simplicity. Users don’t have to switch between a booking page and their personal calendar because everything works through one link and in one place," explains the student of Management Informatics at the Faculty of Business and Management at BUT. The biggest advantage of the app is its user-friendliness. | Author: Václav Koníček Vojtěch Oravec initially worked on the project alone, fully developing the product, including its design and marketing. "Over time, I brought in colleagues to help with development and graphics so I could focus on what I do best," he adds. He was supported by a mentor and people close to him – as well as his sometimes naive enthusiasm for the idea. From a tech perspective, the app's logic is built in Python. "When I started, it was the only framework I had experience with, and I absolutely love it. It comes with a built-in admin panel from the start, which many modern technologies lack," he explains, noting that predefined components and templates also saved him a lot of time. He admits that occasional bugs were part of the process but says fixing them helped him gain valuable experience that will benefit him in the future. The innovative idea impressed the expert jury, earning first place in the BUT Student Entrepreneurship Award competition. Thanks to this, Vojtěch Oravec – who joined the competition mainly to receive feedback and support – gained numerous contacts and the chance to dedicate himself fully to the technology. He got the idea for the app by coincidence when he participated in a high school project that involved working with a mentor. That mentor happened to be using a competitor product, Calendly, and was dissatisfied. "I’d always wanted to launch a startup, so I just seized the opportunity," Vojtěch recalls. Why focus on time management and productivity? According to the creator, it’s a topic that resonates deeply with people nowadays. "Everyone wants to be efficient and save time wherever possible," he says, adding that saved hours can be easily translated into saved money, which makes it relatively easy to convince clients to pay for such a service. As someone who is highly organized and calendar-driven himself, creating a product like OneCalend felt completely natural. The well-thought-out project won first place in the university competition. | Author: Václav Koníček
The app launched publicly in the spring and, according to Vojtěch, now serves over 150 clients. Even though it’s a strong start that exceeds the goals set in the business plan, the creator is considering stepping away from the running project. "Since entering the calendar scheduling market, a lot has changed. Tech giants like Google and Microsoft are entering the space, and with the rise of AI, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the future of calendars lies in their hands. That’s why I’ve decided to try to sell the project and use the money and experience for a new venture," he explains. The application is already running live. | Author: Václav Koníček And he’s following through. Vojtěch Oravec is currently founding a new startup focused on AI visibility. "I’m working on how to ensure brand visibility in answers generated by models like ChatGPT or Gemini. It’s a completely new direction, and I love being part of it from the beginning," he says, adding that entrepreneurial support is one of the things he values most about studying at Brno University of Technology.Author: Lenka Hubáčková
