The ability of the doctoral student of an independent scientific work on the selected topic, familiarity with scientific work methodology, especially the problem analysis and synthesis of the findings and its creative application in the proposed solution.

The graduate is ready for an independent scientific and research work in the field of architecture and urban design theory, is able to solve practical problems in the field of architecture and urban design independently and at a scientific level, publishes outcomes of both practical and theoretical activities, also in any of the world languages, is able to teach at a higher-education institution.

Entry requirements

The master degree qualification in the branch of architecture or similar achieved at a higher-education institution in the Czech Republic or a school of architecture abroad.
Passing successfully the admission examination during which the applicant proves his/her interest and expert knowledge for a research work.

  1. . Architecture and art in architecture - the state of affairs in Europe before the Iron Curtain (locally rather than time)

    Current trends in the application of Arts in Architecture. The connection between architecture and art. Cooperation between architect and artist. Is there a common area of art and architecture? If so. How it is conceived and shaped?

  2. Contemporary Mechanisms of Urban Development - European Trends

    Based on an analysis of important European projects for new urban areas will be assessed a similar urban structure in Czech cities. Implemented by establishing a framework of cooperation between municipal authorities, architect / city planner and developer organizations.

  3. Principles of Design of Energy-Efficient Straw Structures

    The doctoral thesis strives to examine the issues of designing straw structures in climate, construction and legal conditions of the Czech Republic in order to make them comply with requirements of sustainable structures.

  4. Social determinants of cities architecture

    Parallels and relations of cities architecture - centers of ideas, which used to determine new directions and where new movements were born. Following up of the city formation, rise, culmination and its decline of the background of a global context.

  5. The Aspects of Light in the Sacred Architecture

    Thesis is focused on the Aspects of Light in the sacred Architecture of the Catholic churých. The aim is to describe wide symboly of the Light and its Relations and Consequences in the hisporical and contemporary architectural work.

  6. Typological elements for housing buildings

    Each typology carries typical and unique features of both available and the building structure. Their shape and form undergoes transformations in the context of time and the demands and requirements of users. The work will lead to the identification of the basic categories of typological elements for residential housing. And in terms of historical development, the relaitonship between the structure and function of the material and the interior. The output will lay out possible direction of their further development.
