Antiferromagnets have gained a lot of interest in recent years due to their spintronic applications. NiO is a well-known antiferromagnetic material. Its Néel temperature above room temperature makes it an ideal candidate for study of antiferromagnetic domains. Using reactive magnetron sputtering, NiO thin films are epitaxially grown on MgO (001) and sapphire (0001) substrates under different conditions to study the impact on crystal and antiferromagnetic domain structures. Magneto-optical birefringence imaging is used to observe T (twin) domains, providing an accessible alternative to X-ray linear magnetic dichroism. We developed a laser setup to perform all-optical control of antiferromagnetic domains
