The present trend in the field of nanomagnetism and spintronics is the replacement of magnetically unstable ferromagnetic (FM) materials currently used in spintronic memory devices with more magnetically stable materials. Synthetic antiferromagnets (SAFs) were chosen for this study as they are tunable, magnetically stable and enabling device concepts involving spin-current induced domain-wall (DW) motion. SAFs based on the CoFeB/Ru/CoFeB thin film multilayer with in-plane magnetic anisotropy (IPA) were deposited by magnetron sputtering and patterned using positive UV lithography. Magnetostatic properties of the SAFs were analyzed by vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM) and Magneto-optical Kerr microscopy and consequently tailored based on the observed results. DW motion induced by spin-orbit torques (SOTs) using pulses of spin current was measured in SAF microstripes for low energetical creep and beginning of higher energetical flow regime.
