This thesis deals with the electromagnetic and thermal analysis of three induction motors, designated M1, M2, and M3, using the Motor-CAD program, and verifies the program’s suitability for optimizing electrical machines. The first part of the thesis contains a literature review focused on losses in asynchronous motors. The second part of the thesis deals with heat transfer mechanisms and the thermal network method. Furthermore, the procedure for calculating the equivalent thermal conductivity of the windings and the contact thermal resistance is described. The third section presents an electromagnetic and thermal analysis, followed by a comparison of the calculated results with the measured data. The electromagnetic analysis yielded accurate results, particularly regarding mechanical power, electrical power, torque, and efficiency. For the stator currents, a maximum deviation of 6,5 % was recorded. The thermal analysis demonstrated an exact match between the calculated and measured temperatures. For motors M1 and M2, the average temperatures in the stator windings and the rotor cage were compared, with maximum deviations of 5 °C. For motor M3, in addition to the temperature of the windings and the rotor cage, the temperature of the frame was also compared. The largest temperature deviations reached 4,33 % for the windings, 6 % for the rotor cage, and 5,36 % for the frame. In the final section of the thesis, the Motor-CAD program is used to solve an optimization problem using the Python programming language, which, thanks to the PyMotorCAD library, allows the program to be controlled. The goal was to use differential evolution to find the optimal values of six geometric parameters of the stator and rotor slots of the M3 motor. The purpose of the program was to achieve the highest possible efficiency at rated power, while ensuring that neither stator tooth saturation nor excessive heating of the windings and rotor occurred. The resulting optimized model achieved an efficiency 1,26 % higher than the original.
