This thesis studies salt crystallization using differential thermal analysis. The issue of urinary stone formation was chosen as a model example for testing and defining measurement conditions. The theoretical part summarizes nucleation and the calorimetric measurement principles. The practical part covers experiments with a flexible chip-based picocalorimeter. A method for inducing crystallization in nanoliter droplets via controlled evaporation was designed, tested on a KCl solution, and applied to a complex artificial urine model. The main contribution of this work is demonstrating the system’s ability to detect thermal manifestations of crystallization in small volumes. The results show that combining calorimetric recording with visual morphological analysis makes it possible to distinguish the different behavior of samples with 190 and 380 μM oxalate concentrations, despite variance in the calorimetric values themselves. The findings confirm the potential of this method for the future development of point-of-care screening systems.
