Master's Thesis
Author of thesis: Ing. Martin Michal

The aim of this thesis is to describe and explain to the reader the behavior of semiconductor components—specifically bipolar transistors—in the presence of ionizing radiation. The theoretical section describes the effects that radiation can have on these components, whether occurring randomly and individually (Single Event Effect) or as a result of cumulative irradiation, where the probability of occurrence (Total Ionizing Dose and Displacement Damages) increases with the dose received. In the practical section, the author describes the construction of the first device, which measures the switching characteristics of a transistor. He then describes the course of the first experiment and interprets its results. Based on this experiment and the results derived from it, he decided to build another device that measures a more vulnerable property of transistors—gain, which is much more sensitive to radiation fields. The author tested this device, along with the transistors, at several agreed-upon facilities. In the conclusion of this thesis, he summarized the results of the experiments and described how this electronics could be used, as well as what would need to be ensured for its functionality.
