This master’s thesis focuses on the comprehensive modernization and automation of the control system for a multi-tower water lift with partial guidance. The original control system, based on the Schneider Electric PLC platform, was replaced by a modern Siemens SIMATIC S7-1200 architecture. The primary objective of the work was to reduce the operator’s cognitive load by implementing autonomous algorithms for carrier position tracking and automation of the towing rope return cycle. The modernization includes the addition of sensors for continuous speed measurement, monitoring of weather conditions, and diagnostics of pneumatic actuators. The entire solution was validated using a digital twin in Software-in-the-Loop and Hardware-in-the-Loop configurations using SIMIT and NX Mechatronics Concept Designer tools. The system’s safety parameters were verified using the FMEA method and Performance Level (PL) validation according to EN ISO 13849-1, achieving increased operational safety and efficiency of the overall handling process.
