This thesis focuses on the development, testing, and implementation of State of Charge (SOC) estimation algorithms for battery cells, specifically designed for the Battery Management System (BMS) of a Formula Student electric race car. Experimental measurements were performed on battery cells to compare different modeling approaches. The selected equivalent circuit models were parameterized using subspace identification and nonlinear least squares methods, and subsequently validated under dynamic load conditions utilizing real racing current profiles. The core of the research lies in the implementation and evaluation of SOC estimation algorithms. A baseline Coulomb counting method was compared with advanced observer-based approaches, namely the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) and the Central Difference Kalman Filter (CDKF). The results indicate that while both the EKF and CDKF achieve comparable and high estimation accuracy, the EKF algorithm exhibits a shorter execution time. Consequently, the EKF represents the optimal solution for real-time application within the hardware constraints of the racing vehicle's BMS.
