How to bring life back to a hollowing city center?
This bachelor’s thesis responds to the current issue of Prostějov – the gradual hollowing out of the historic core. My goal is to transform the existing asphalt surface of Jirásek Square, which currently functions primarily as a transport hub, into a confident landmark.

The “Flatirón” project is based on the synergy of housing and sports. The key element is the elevation of the northern part of the building onto columns, thereby releasing the ground floor to the public. The hitherto formal name “Jirásek Square” thus takes on the form of a real square – a covered public space for gathering is created.

The residential section is focused on the theme of “Aging in Place.” The inclusive standard of the housing units here is not perceived as a mere necessity, but as an invisible comfort ensuring full-quality living at every stage of life. The entire concept is concluded by a cantilevered gymnasium conceived as an “urban lantern.” Its transparent envelope ensures contact with the surroundings and functions as a glowing landmark at night, restoring new energy and life to the corner.
