The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to design a contemporary multifunctional building with a predominantly residential function in Prostějov. The building is located near the city centre, on Jiráskovo Square, on the site of an existing parking lot. The design is intended to respond to current trends in urban planning in view of the densification of urban development and to restore an attractive, cultural, and modern character to the city centre. The site is unique due to its long, narrow shape and also marks the end of the street at a corner.
The design comprises two apartment buildings with an active ground floor in a public space. The apartment buildings feature a diverse mix of residential units. Even with the same floor plan, each apartment is unique thanks to the design of the windows and balconies. The elevated ground floor houses shops, a café, and a gallery, with unconventional interior and exterior spaces due to the motif of arches and octant of a sphere. The design creates a modern landmark near the city centre, and at the same time responds to the character of the site and fits into the urban fabric.
