The subject of the bachelor's thesis is the design of a hotel building with covered garages in the city center of Prostějov. The work follows on from a previous urban study that dealt with the future of the location used as an outdoor parking lot and has so far identified the potential of the plots in the context of the historical core of the city. The design of the building responds to the long-term absence of quality hotel accommodation in the direct center of Prostějov and at the same time solves the deficit of parking spaces, which is a repeatedly discussed problem in this part of the city.
The building is located on Palackého Street and is divided into two clearly separate units in terms of its operation. The first two above-ground floors are dedicated to covered garages with technical and operational facilities, while the third to fifth above-ground floors are fully used for hotel operations with designed rooms in 1+kk and 2+kk layouts. This layout option also allows for the possible future conversion of the building into rental housing, thus ensuring the long-term functional flexibility of the building. The adjacent Mlýnská street is transformed into a pedestrian and recreational zone with a café as part of the design, creating a new space and community meeting place in the public city center.
The architectural expression of the building consciously works with the contrast of two material positions – the luxfer cladding of the garage floors refers to the functionalist tradition associated with the history of Prostějov, while the minimalist plaster of the hotel part brings a contemporary and civil expression. The design is an architecturally cultivated object that renovates a degraded place in the city center, enriches its public space and offers the city and its visitors a missing combination of services at an attractive central address.
