This bachelor’s thesis focuses on determining systolic volume from continuous photoplethysmography signals. The introductory section of the thesis includes a literature review focusing on the characteristics of systolic volume, its clinical significance, and an overview of both invasive and non-invasive methods for measuring it. It further describes the biological and physical principles of photoplethysmography, including the morphology of the PPG signal and its derivatives. The experimental section involves the measurement of PPG signals and reference values of systolic volume in a group of subjects under various conditions. The acquired data were subsequently preprocessed, filtered, and analyzed using algorithms for detecting key points on the PPG curve. Morphological, temporal, and integration features were extracted and served as inputs for machine learning regression models and a convolutional neural network designed to estimate systolic volume. The results of the individual approaches were compared with reference values and evaluated using selected error metrics. The results achieved highlight the potential of photoplethysmography for non-invasive monitoring of systolic volume, while also confirming the limitations caused by the variability and sensitivity of the PPG signal.
