This thesis addresses the issue of noise pollution in the contemporary urban environment and critically reflects on the limitations of the traditional defensive engineering approach. This conventional approach relies primarily on reducing noise levels through added technical noise barriers, which often disrupt public spaces visually and functionally. Instead, the thesis explores possibilities of utilizing architecture and urban design to deliberately manipulate the propagation of sound energy and contribute to a more pleasant acoustic environment. It draws on the concept of soundscape, which perceives the sound environment as a complex and actively formable component of urban space. The primary objective of the thesis is to identify and define architectural and urban design tools that allow not only for the mitigation of acoustic discomfort but also for the deliberate cultivation of the users‘ auditory experience across various types of public spaces. The research is structured into three interconnected parts. In the first part, drawing on a review of existing studies, it defines four architectural elements with the potential to influence the acoustic environment, subsequently examining them from both physical and psychoacoustic perspectives. The second, analytical-modeling phase employs computational simulations on a set of ten variant spatial models in two material configurations, verifying the impact of architectural morphology and street network curvature on the propagation of traffic noise within a street canyon environment. Finally, the third part applies the acquired knowledge to a concrete architectural proposal through a case study of a specific space—a Neo-Renaissance courtyard on Husova Street in Brno. The proposal incorporates soundscape design principles, such as spatial diffusion, shielding, and acoustic masking, with a strong emphasis on psychoacoustic effects. The thesis demonstrates that a consciously formulated architectural design possesses the potential to actively influence sound propagation and significantly contribute to the creation of a higher quality, acoustically friendly urban environment.

Studentka odprezentovala obhajovanou práci a byly přečteny posudky. Studentka odpovídá na otázky oponenta a vysvětluje proces svého uvažování při návrhu. Diskutovali se tato témata: konzultovala s památkáři, diskuse o různých variantách řešení a ve kterých situacích je vhodné je využít. dotaz na kombinace tepelné izolace a tlumením zvuku v exteriéru: existují nějaké konkrétní příklady nebo reference; diskuse o projektech, která se zabývají návrhy nových prvků, které pracují s akustikou, co studentka považuje za nejdůležitější část teoretické práce – simulace odrazů zvuku v ulicích, otázka na generování formy zídky – do jaké části je generovaná a jak je vytvořen generativní model a jak se sním pracovalo, způsob vyhodnocení variant návrhu, jak působí akustická stěna směrem do ulice, možné varianty, a alternativy, aplikace na úrovni města, jestli je možné plošně vynutit. Studentka úspěšně reagovala na otázky a témata diskuse.
