This bachelor’s thesis focuses on the application of the CPTED concept (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) in the urban environment of Seattle, United States of America. The first part describes the historical origins of this concept, its further development and gradual transformation, including its division into individual generations of CPTED. For the practical analysis, a part of the Chinatown/International District was selected, as this area felt unpleasant during the field survey and reduced the sense of safety. Photo documentation was made in this location. The area was analysed in terms of its physical environment and surrounding context, including social factors. For a more objective assessment, available crime data for the selected area were also examined in detail. After defining the problematic zones, measures were proposed to improve the condition and perception of this part of the city and, at the same time, to contribute to increasing its safety in the long term.
