Abstract:

The subject of the bachelor’s thesis is the preparation of project documentation for a new residential building with nearly zero energy consumption.
The apartment building is located in the town of Kuřim and is designed as a five-storey structure consisting of four above-ground floors and one underground floor. The basement level contains an underground garage for passenger cars. The apartment building contains a total of 21 residential units.
The structural system of the building is designed as a combined system consisting of a monolithic reinforced concrete frame with ceramic masonry infill walls. The building is covered by a flat green roof. The external walls are insulated using an ETICS thermal insulation system.
The thesis also includes technical assessments in the field of building physics, particularly thermal performance, acoustics, and fire safety, as well as a conceptual design of the heating, domestic hot water preparation, and ventilation systems.

Process of defence

The student presented her bachelor's thesis, the building's location, and the basic design parameters. She also presented the proposed structural system and material selection. The student also presented the assessment of the building that she had conducted. The student then responded to the oponent's questions. The student was asked: - why was this particular site in Kuřim selected for the proposed building? - where is the manufacturer of the prefabricated concrete structure located, and what is the distance between the production facility and the construction site? - how are thermal bridges at the junction between the unheated first floor and the heated second floor addressed in the design? - how is acoustic insulation of the staircase structure ensured? The student, demonstrating a thorough grasp of the subject matter, provided expert responses to all of the opponent’s comments and also answered all of the committee members’ questions regarding the thesis with great skill.
