This bachelor’s thesis examines the current state of the art in municipal
wastewater management in karst areas, which are characterized by high
vulnerability of groundwater and very limited natural self-purification
capacity. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the suitability of wastewater
treatment technologies and to assess whether current legislative and
technological requirements provide sufficient protection of the karst aquifer.
The theoretical part focuses on the characteristics of the karst environment,
standard components of municipal pollution, and selected organic
micropollutants, including an overview of Czech and European water
legislation. The practical part analyses the current and planned wastewater
management in the Moravian Karst Protected Landscape Area and compares
centralized and decentralized treatment systems. The thesis highlights the
limited suitability of certain decentralized solutions in karst areas and
emphasizes the importance of stable, technologically controlled treatment
processes, particularly with respect to nutrient and micropollutant removal.
The results contribute to the discussion on effective groundwater protection
in sensitive karst regions.
