Abstract:

The topic of this diploma thesis is the modernization and extension of the Matyáš Lerch Grammar School building in Brno, with the aim of improving the quality of educational facilities as well as creating new spaces for leisure activities, relaxation, and social interaction for students and visitors. The proposal builds upon a pre-diploma project focused on the urban design of the wider area.
The site is located in Brno, in the Veveří district, within the area of Kraví hora, which represents an important green and recreational zone within the urban structure of the city. The thesis therefore addresses the relationship between architecture and landscape, the preservation and expansion of greenery, and the integration of the proposed intervention into the sloping terrain.
The existing school building is extended by a rooftop addition and a new adjoining extension, introducing new classrooms, multifunctional spaces, and recreational areas while simultaneously opening new panoramic views towards the city of Brno. The newly proposed extension is primarily focused on supporting student wellbeing and creating a high-quality environment for relaxation, communication, and community activities.
The architectural design is based on the functionalist character of the original building and reinterprets its typical architectural principles in a contemporary way. The proposal works with a skeletal structural system and large glazed surfaces complemented by dichroic glass. This material changes its appearance and colour depending on the angle and intensity of incident light, creating a dynamic visual atmosphere throughout the building. The design also incorporates a secondary façade shading system on the existing structure, forming a visually dynamic façade responding to changing lighting conditions while improving the environmental performance of the building.

Process of defence

Studentka přišla a představila se. Započala prezentaci své diplomové práce. Prezentace byla plynulá bez nedostatků. Byly přečteny posudky vedoucího a oponenta práce. Následovaly dotazy oponenta: 1) Čemu přispívá výrazná změna dispozice a přesun gastroprovozu s jídelnou do druhého křídla objektu? Jak bude řešeno zásobování provozu. Reakce autora: Díky posuvným stěnám v jídelně může vnitřní atrium komunikovat s nově vzniklým venkovním atriem. Zásobování bude probíhat skrz venkovní atrium. 2) Jakým způsobem návrh reaguje na problematiku přehřívání budovy v souvislosti s klimatickou změnou a rostoucími letními teplotami, zejména u rozsáhlejších prosklených ploch? Reakce autora: Autorka reaguje popisem konceptu konstrukcí a vysvětlením konstrukčního detailu. Vysvětluje úpravu skla UV fólií. Vysvětluje koncepci otevření fasád vůči světovým stranám. Otázky komise k projektu: 1) Burian se vyjadřuje k dispozičním změnám, které jsou dramatické, ale dávají mu smysl. Volnočasové aktivity Reakce autora: Autorka reaguje pohotově a vysvětluje možnost využití prostor i pro veřejnost. 2) Zabezpečení objektu. Reakce autora: U vstupu jsou navrženy turnikety. Objekt je oplocen. 3) Lávka a koncepční řešení. Reakce autora: Rampa je vedena nad teénem a umožňuje výhledy na město. 4) Sklo v učebnách, nebudou odlesky rušit při výuce. Reakce autora: Přirozené světlo se dostane do učebny skrze světlíky. Tónování skla lze ovlivnit pomocí počtu vrstev fólií. 5) Urbanistické změny předprostoru školu. Reakce autora: Studentka pohotově vysvětluje na situaci své změny. 6) Proč jste u nástavby nezvolila z izolačních důvodů zelenou střechu Reakce autora: Na nástavbu jsou umístěny FVE panely. 7) Zasklené stěny - konstrukční řešení, členění konstrukcí - chybí detailnější zpracování 8) Žaluzie - konstrukční fungování Reakce autora: Žaluzie jsou na ocelových rámech a umožňují různou možnost otevření a uzavření.
