This bachelor's thesis deals with the design of a swirl turbine for parallel connection to a pressure reducing valve. The aim of the thesis is to utilize a portion of the pressure energy available in water supply systems for electric energy recuperation, and to use the recovered energy for digitalization purposes. The first part introduces the reader to the principles of energy recovery in water supply networks and provides an overview of axial water turbines. The second part focuses on the empirical and iterative design of the runner geometry and its verification by CFD simulations, based on which the hydraulic parameters at the design point are evaluated. Based on the simulation results, a mechanical design is elaborated, covering the selection of the generator, shaft design, bearing arrangement and sealing. As part of the thesis, a prototype of the designed solution was manufactured using 3D printing technology, intended for experimental verification in a hydraulic laboratory.
