Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis deals with the design of a detached family house located in Brno-Houbařská intended for a family of four. The outcome of the thesis is a set of project documentation for the execution phase of the building in accordance with applicable Czech technical standards and regulations.
The proposed building consists of a partial basement with an integrated garage for two vehicles, and one above ground floor. The architectural concept emphasizes functionality, simple spatial organization, user comfort, and energy efficiency. The building is covered by an extensive green flat roof contributing to thermal stability, rainwater retention, and environmental sustainability. The thesis includes architectural and structural design, site planning, fire safety solution, building physics assessment, and selected technical systems. The proposed materials, structural system, and technical solutions were selected with consideration for durability, low maintenance requirements, and reduced energy consumption to achieve the standards of a near zero-energy building.

Process of defence

The student presented her bachelor's thesis, the building's location, and the basic design parameters. She also presented the proposed structural system and material selection. The student also presented the assessment of the building that she had conducted. The student then responded to the oponent's questions. Student was asked: - how will the garage be ventilated? Is the proposed solution the most suitable one? - how will compaction of the backfill next to the strip foundations be achieved? - is there sufficient space for this operation? - how will the staircase be installed? The student did a generally very good job of responding to the opponent’s comments and justifying his proposed solutions; he also responded very well to most of the questions posed by the committee members regarding his thesis.
