Abstract:

“Escape to the Woods” is a large-scale interdisciplinary spatial installation, a shelter created from textiles and paintings, complemented by an ambient soundscape and specific lighting design.

In my bachelor’s thesis, I work with a diary-like format — recordings of personal experiences. In this work, I focus on creating and translating my own imaginative and subconscious world into reality through installation and painting. Here I refer to my several-month stay in the Ukrainian forest. The installation imitates a large tent/shelter that one builds in nature from tarps and other materials; this shelter then becomes a home. I perceive this way of living as more natural for people than what the city offers. The exhibition consists not only of paintings and textiles, but also of a large feather duvet intended for sitting, lying, and moving through — creating a soft, imaginative space for close interaction and comfort. The exhibition also includes interactive elements that invite the viewer to create (create instead of consuming), supporting another key message of the project.

When creating installations, I use found fabrics or fabrics purchased in second-hand stores. I dye the fabrics directly on site according to the needs of the installation, or I experiment with them further in the studio.

Process of defence

Studentka přednesla svou obhajobu. Následně byly přečteny posudky vedoucího a oponentky a otázky k rozpravě. Vedoucí práce se dotazuje na možnost způsobu předání emoce, kterou studentka chce diváctvu sdělit. Studentka odpovídá na otázku a objasňuje své záměry výsledné instalace. Komise se dotazuje na inspirační zdroje, které studentka v obhajobě uvedla. Probíhá debata mezi komisí a studentkou o možnosti předání osobních pocitů. Komise uvažovala, zda studentka vnímá svoji silnou pozici zrovna v malbě. Následně probíhá debata o možnosti využití jiného média pro tento projekt. Poté padly otázky nad jednotlivými aspekty provedení instalace. Komise dále debatuje, jak by instalace vypadala, kdyby studentka tvořila přímo během pobytu venku, a ne v ateliéru. Studentka popisuje, že instalace má fungovat jako celek. Následně popisuje významy jednotlivých detailů v instalaci. Komise oceňuje místo vybrané pro instalaci. Vedoucí práce a studentka dále debatují o jiném možném řešení instalace. Předseda komise ukončuje debatu po uplynutí časového limitu.
