The diploma thesis focuses on the urban and architectural transformation of a former military complex in San Miguel de Tucumán into a new permeable urban district. The proposal builds upon a pre-diploma project and addresses the theme of collective memory connected to the period of the Argentine military dictatorship. The central element of the concept is Arsenal Memory Park — an extensive public space integrating landscape, public life, and cultural institutions. The main subject of the thesis is the design of a philharmonic hall as part of an interpretation center, which together with the museum and gallery building forms the new cultural and social core of the district. The complex is situated along the main pedestrian axis of the area and defines the central public space — the Square of Memory. The architectural concept of the philharmonic hall is based on the contrast between a rationally composed outer envelope defined by a monumental travertine column grid and the elliptically shaped main concert hall with a total capacity of 787 spectators. The proposal works with a simple, compact, and calm architectural volume responding to the memorial character of the site and its historical context. An important part of the project is the design of operational relationships within the building, including underground parking, logistical facilities for concert operations, and a generous foyer space with a monumental staircase. The project also reflects the climatic conditions of the region through the use of shading systems, a green roof, public space design, and its connection to the landscape concept of Arsenal Memory Park. The diploma thesis combines urban, architectural, structural, and social aspects of designing a cultural institution within a site carrying a strong historical legacy, while exploring the relationship between contemporary architecture, public space, and collective memory.
