This diploma thesis focuses on the design of the Arsenal Memory Park Museum and Gallery in San Miguel, which responds to the historical legacy of tragic events associated with the Arsenal site. The building is conceived as a significant landmark within the public space while symbolically connecting the urban structure with the central park and the memorial site. The architectural design is based on the principle of strict axial symmetry and the geometric concept of a circle, reflecting the urban relationships of the area and the surrounding ring road.
The massing consists of two mirror-symmetrical wings connected by a lower central volume, creating a public interstitial space between them. The façades combine glazed surfaces, translucent concrete panels, and stone cladding with vertical articulation, supporting the use of natural light and the monumental character of the building. The spatial layout is designed with an emphasis on high visitor capacity and clear operational relationships. The ground floor contains the museum with a permanent exhibition, a restaurant, and a café, while the upper floors accommodate gallery spaces for seasonal exhibitions and audiovisual projections. Technical facilities, storage areas, and employee parking are located in the underground level.
The aim of the thesis is to create an architectural design for a cultural institution that combines educational, social, and commemorative functions while becoming a significant urban and symbolic element of the area.
